The liver often works quietly, and many liver conditions cause few symptoms in their early stages. Recognising the warning signs helps you seek care before damage progresses.
Signs to watch for
- Persistent tiredness and weakness
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
- Dark urine or pale stools
- Discomfort or swelling in the upper right abdomen
- Swelling of the legs or abdomen
- Easy bruising or itching
- Loss of appetite, nausea or unexplained weight loss
Who should get checked
People with diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, regular alcohol use, or a history of hepatitis B or C benefit from periodic liver evaluation. Simple blood tests, ultrasound and FibroScan can assess liver health.
